Oki-Ryu Kenpo translates literally to "Open System, Way of the Fist". The Oki-Ryu style was created by 10th Degree Black Belt, Grand Master Don Rodrigues and incorporates elements of many different martial arts styles. Grand Master Rodrigues began his martial arts training in the 1960s, under the late Grandmaster Nick Cerio, just as the first wave of martial arts was spreading across the United States. Grand Master also studied, and has been certified, under the late Grandmaster Ed Parker and Grandmaster George Pesare. Oki-Ryu incorporates the core philosophies and techniques established by these early founders of American Kenpo. To the basic Kenpo style, elements from other styles have been added, resulting in a well rounded system that includes the best of the following:
Kenpo - Self Defense techniques emphasizing powerful blocks, punches and kicks
Judo - Features throws to knock an opponent to the ground
Ju-Jitsu - Focuses on joint locks to immobilize an opponent
Kung Fu - Develops graceful, fluid, yet extraordinarily powerful motion
Tae Kwon Do - Features powerful kicks, including jumping and spinning kicks
Okinawan Weapons - Learning to wield the Bo, Sai, Kama, and Nunchaku improves dexterity, speed and coordination while developing the ability to improvise and use your environment in your defense
