MISSION STATEMENT
"The American Open Sword System was created by Grand Master Don Rodrigues and Master Alan D'Allessandro to present
a curriculum based system of the sword. For the first time ever, the American Open Sword System has curriculum from White
Belt to Black Belt to learn all aspects of the sword in a belt ranking system. In creating a belt ranking system
with the sword, it also creates the short term goals leading to the long term goal which is being a proficient
swordsman / Black Belt in the American Sword System."

|
| What is it? |
The American Open Sword System is a step by step curriculum that introduces the student to the Japanese
long sword - the Katana. As a student you will learn traditional styles of drawing and returning the weapon, strikes, blocks and guards.
The system features over 60 offensive and defensive maneuvers that, when mastered, provide a solid basis for
wielding the Japanese sword.

| Training |
Training consists of exercises and drills designed to teach proper grip and hand/arm/shoulder positions,
proper footwork and stance. Training includes conditioning drills that develop mobility, agility, balance, accuracy, timing, speed and
stamina. We work interactive partner drills using wooden practice swords (called bokens) as well as solo practice using (unsharpened)
training blades.
